Great Grandma and Grandpa Wallace

Great-great Grandma and Grandpa Wallace

Great-great-great Grandma and Grandpa Wallace

just a cute picture from the visit to the cemetary :D

a very loud trio

this is how we roll!

Grandma asked for an action shot of the airport with three toddlers. The first picture was snapped by a nice lady who chatted with me while David parked the car. And the second by me, just for fun. Don't worry, I usually pulled one of the suitcase strollers. David only did both for the photo. ;-)

a few portraits

just snapping pictures as we hung out at AlJoe's house.

the great wagon whoops

Here's the photographic documentation of the "great wagon whoops".

Charlie had the worst of it, but it obviously didn't dampen his spirits.

Hazel was very serious about her injuries, however. On a side note, this is a great picture of Hazel's beautiful hazel eyes.

Jono's is harder to see, but he had a scrape above his upper lip, and another on his cheek. He actually looks worse now that it's healing and the scab is gone. The new pink skin contrasts with his skin tone. It will darken to match the rest of his face in time, but until then he has a nice pink moustache.

David endured much teasing from his immediate and extended family last weekend for his role in the wagon incident. At one point he (good naturedly) protested that we were supposed to be there to remember his grandmother, not to pick on him. A cousin replied, "Well, wouldn't your grandmother be making fun of you, too?" Yes, yes she would have.

a Charlie funny

conversation between David and Charlie:

David: What does the cow say?
Charlie: mooo!
David: What does the sheep say?
Charlie: baaa!
David: What does the horse say?
Charlie: naaa! (close enough)
David: What does the pig say?
Charlie: (wagging a finger) no, no no!

Bonus points to anyone who knows why without reading the explanation below. ;-)

One of the kids' favorite board books is Sandra Boynton's Moo, Baa, La La La. The text of the book is:

A cow says, "Mooo."
A sheep says, "Baaa."
Three singing pigs say, "La la la!"
"No no," you say, "That isn't right! Pigs say oink all day and night!"
...and it continues

So, in Charlie's reading, the pig says no. Funny buddy.

camera issues, so just a text update

Our computer that has pictures on it is on the fritz, so we can't post any recent pictures. Sorry, adoring fans!

Just so that everyone is up on the most recent news, though, we are headed back to Kansas. Great-grandma Wallace passed away in the wee hours of the morning today, at 97 years old. We were so glad she got to see the kids a few weeks ago before she died. We leave Saturday to go back up there for the funeral (which is on Monday), and return to Houston on Tuesday. I'm not thrilled about traveling again so soon with three toddlers, but if we did it before we can do it again. Right?!

Much love to all the extended Wallace family who lost a wonderful Mom and Grandma. She will be missed. <3

two photos for Nana

Here are a couple you asked to see, Mom!

I'll repost when I get the kid art display frames up on the khaki playroom wall. Jono's collage will be one of the first ones displayed. ;-)

lunch for "red day" at MDO!

I was proud of myself, so I thought I'd share. Watermelon, hot dog, strawberries, craisins, and well, string cheese, since it fits well in that slot. Jono saw this picture as I was downloading (I packed it before he got up) and asked to eat, so I think he's excited!

For "red day" he's also wearing his red t-shirt and taking a baggie of red stuff to glue on a collage. I packed a balloon, a button, some yarn, some ribbon, a fabric swatch, some pompoms, and stickers in his baggie. Should be a fine-looking red collage!

Maybe after today he'll know a color other than yellow and blue!

favorites!

Jono was AlJoe's buddy this weekend. He went out on the 4-wheeler several times to count cows and generally ride around. He loved the farm and cried when we left.

Despite all the efforts Grandma put into having toys for the babies, Charlie preferred his high chair buckles and the broom.

Great Grandma

Great Grandma Wallace is in the hospital in Lincoln due to some kidney trouble. We visited with her twice. These were from our first trip up there. Charlie wasn't so sure about sitting with her. Hazel's interest was short lived as well. But my sweet oldest boy amazes me. He sat beside Grandma, asked about her "boo-boos", patted her hand, and chattered at her about all sorts of things. He's such a wonderful people person.

Post Rock Festival

We happened to be in town for the Lincoln County Post Rock Festival! I'm hope Mary got some pictures of the parade, but I'll start off with some of babies eating fair food.

mmm, corn dog!

and Mama's nachos!

Grandma Wallace said that by the time she was finished, you couldn't tell where Hazel's snotty nose finished and her nacho cheese began. Yeah. It was bad.

Post Rock Festival, part II

While Jono jumped in the bounce house, I snapped some photos of the babies on the courthouse lawn.

indoctrination

You can't really tell from the picture, but the Wallace grandkids were in the midst of a very important rite of passage. Betty's rolls for breakfast in Barnard. All three heartily approved. They ate two rolls between the three of them, which is more than their Aunt Sarah can usually eat. Impressive!

the best way to travel with twin toddlers!

excuse the tired-looking mama! she couldn't get as comfy as they could.

waiting for our flight home

a couple of cuties!

Babies argued over who got to play in the carseat.

Jono watched the planes land. I couldn't decide which version of this picture I liked best, so I uploaded both. ;-)

on the road with toddlers...

If you ever need to get three toddlers plus luggage and carseats through the airport, I think our system worked about as well as could be expected. Here's what we did:

Each adult wore one twin on their back (Ergo/Beco). Each adult pulled one rolling suitcase with a carseat strapped to it. Jono rode in one of the carseats. One adult carried the (BIG) tote bag with on-plane entertainment, diapers, snacks, etc. The other adult carried the third carseat. It worked really, really well. The carriers were perfect--I didn't regret not bringing my stroller for one minute. Sure, it was a pain to get through security, but what plan wouldn't have been?

Waiting for the plane to Kansas City. Excuse the snot-nosed baby girl. Both littles were sick.

And in the KC airport on the way back home.

Kudos to my engineer husband for figuring out the hooking the carseats to the suitcases operation. Fantastic use of climbing webbing, my dear!

travel anecdotes: Jonathan

My two favorite moments from traveling to Kansas last Thursday were courtesy of Jono.

1. He did great on takeoff, but was bothered by the pressure in his ears on descent into Kansas City. He started batting at his ears and complaining that they hurt. David told him to suck his paci, but he still complained. Then David said, "Have a drink. It'll help," and handed him his sippy cup. Jono, confused, put the spout of his sippy in his ear.

2. Despite popular insistence that Kansas is "flatter than a pancake" there are some pretty sizable hills on the drive west on I-70 from Kansas City to the farm. The first time a big hill loomed up beside us, Jono said, "Woah! What's that?" Is that a boy who has spent his entire life in the coastal plains, or what?!
