Hazel

I didn't get any still photos of Hazel at the beach. She was rarely still! So I thought I'd post this cute pic I snapped of her playing with the slinky.

The kiddos' first beach outing was a success! Hazel and Jonathan loved it, and Charlie didn't mind much. Here are a few pictures and videos.




Hazel was absolutely fearless. She would crawl straight out into the ocean until a wave smacked her in the face. Then she'd come up sputtering, but smiling. I'm sorry for the sideways video. I'm not sure how to fix that.

Charlie enjoyed flirting with the lady next to us. Here he is peeking out at her from underneath our umbrella. Silly boy!

The island looks pretty good post-Ike. There were lots of buildings that looked quite wind-blown with blue tarp roofs, but no debris, and no glaring damage. I was pleasantly surprised.

We have been horrible about taking pictures lately! All the skinny picturess you have seen on here recently have been taking by David on his camera phone, so you can blame me for the lack of updates. Without further ado, here are some shots of the kids from the last week...

This first picture is called, "Why I don't do art with Jonathan very often". Yes, that's paint--on his face, mouth, hands, etc. Sheesh.


The second is called, "You mean I wasn't supposed to find that and eat it?" Jono dropped the remains of a Clif bar. Charlie liked it.

Jono, in the last couple of days, has asked both of his parents at one time or another, "Where is sheep?" What a big boy! And so attached to his lovey!

For a couple of weeks now, Jonathan has been throwing massive tantrums every time we got in the car demanding to ride in a "bebe seat". He wanted to be in the one the babies' car seats, which are installed rear facing. I can't let him do that if I'm taking all three kids because neither of the babies meet the minimum standards by law to front-face in the car (20lbs and one year) so that they could trade with Jono.

The tantrums were persistent enough that I spent some time last night cleaning out and vacuuming than van while David (the official car seat installation man) moved Jono's seat back rear-facing beside the babies. He was so thrilled this morning when we went out to take him to school. His face lit up and he climbed right in without protest and promptly buckled his chest clip. Whew!

And in case you're thinking I'm a nutter for turning my 27ish-lb, nearly-2-year-old toddler back around, just know that it's perfectly safe. Our seats have rear facing weight limits of 35lbs, so he has some time if he continues to prefer it. And in fact, the AAP recently recommended keeping toddlers rear-facing longer than the legally required one year anyway. Maybe someone told Jono. ;-)
