Jono joins the babies

photo taken looking in from the back of the van

For a couple of weeks now, Jonathan has been throwing massive tantrums every time we got in the car demanding to ride in a "bebe seat". He wanted to be in the one the babies' car seats, which are installed rear facing. I can't let him do that if I'm taking all three kids because neither of the babies meet the minimum standards by law to front-face in the car (20lbs and one year) so that they could trade with Jono.

The tantrums were persistent enough that I spent some time last night cleaning out and vacuuming than van while David (the official car seat installation man) moved Jono's seat back rear-facing beside the babies. He was so thrilled this morning when we went out to take him to school. His face lit up and he climbed right in without protest and promptly buckled his chest clip. Whew!

And in case you're thinking I'm a nutter for turning my 27ish-lb, nearly-2-year-old toddler back around, just know that it's perfectly safe. Our seats have rear facing weight limits of 35lbs, so he has some time if he continues to prefer it. And in fact, the AAP recently recommended keeping toddlers rear-facing longer than the legally required one year anyway. Maybe someone told Jono. ;-)

Please tell Jono that Nana's new job requires walking backwards at the foot of a rolling bed. Nana does this many times a day at what seems like break-neck speed. It is an interesting perspective, to say the least.

Perhaps Jono just wanted to see the world from Nana's point of view... moving backwards.
