My good friend Dr. David Mayes came to visit on Saturday with his family. He's a history professor at Sam Houston State in Huntsville, TX, and with the imminent arrival of their 2nd child, Dave, Erika, and big sister Myriam made a trip to the big city (IKEA and Babies 'r' Us). We were lucky enough to be included in their plans.
It's been 10 years now since Dave and I first met as Fulbright "scholars" in Regensburg and then met Erika in Marburg. Note the scare quotes around "scholar." That's for my sake. Dr. Mayes really is a scholar who spent his time in the city archives translating 16th century census records and subsequently wrote a book. I mostly played Ultimate and planned weekend trips.
