Twins are tricky. You never really know when they're going to show up. This is not good for people like me who like to plan ahead for major life changes. How on earth is one supposed to be have a nursery prepared, a new car purchased, and all that twin gear ready early, but not too early? Here are the questions I ponder...
Will I carry to term? If so, we've got until early July. Plenty of time. But most twins come early. How early? Depends. Ideally, no more than four weeks, so that they're mature and don't have to spend the first few weeks of life in the NICU. That's my OB's goal for us--to make it to 36 weeks, or June 11th. Still plenty of time. But what if they come earlier? They would spend some time in NICU, making my life very, very hectic. I'd be parenting Jono in Sugar Land, plus spending as much time as possible with my hospitalizied newborns 30 minutes away at Texas Children's until they were ready to come home. A situation like that is not conducive to getting the house ready. Or, more commonly, what if I carry into early summer, but spend the last part of my pregnancy on bedrest? How would we get things ready then? See the dilemma?
Here's what we've decided. We're going to do everything we can to be completely ready--nursery set up, new minivan purchased, car seats installed, diapers in baskets, baby clothes washed, etc. by 30 weeks, which happens to be the last day of April. Is that paranoid? I hope so. I hope we spend the next 5 weeks frantically preparing, and then sit around bored to tears through May and June watching my belly grow. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

That is some drama. But maybe we planners need that some times! However, being prepared is a virtue, too, right? So I say that sounds great and I'm glad to get to help by getting a shower together. I'd be super happy to do anything else needed!
We'll be praying those babies stay in there! I had this handy dandy head & body support thingy in our infant car seats, and it really helped b/c our babies tend to run on the small side. Check it out... might be something to add to your wish list! http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2299911
so exciting dude. will be praying for boredom of waiting in may and june!
Oh, how exciting!!!
Where are you registered, by the way?
I hope and pray they stay put. They totally can. I was paranoid that my twins would come too early. I was at 3 cm for over a month, and they didn't budge. I finally had a c-section at 38 weeks 1 day (I too wanted a double-vag birth, but that wasn't in the cards for me...). One day longer than I carried my singleton baby. So it CAN happen! It does make parenting a little one much easier when the ones in the tummy stay put. But... whatever happens, you will do GREAT!! Can't wait to hear how it all goes! B/G twins are THE BEST! Can't believe it was a year ago that I was 34 weeks and wondering the same thing...
